A Sale, A Shark, A Yes, A No

Big weekend for me. I'll start with an acceptance--A Thousand Faces accepted my story "Meta Man's Manicured Menace" for publication some time in 2009. This is my third Meta Man story accepted by them, and these are also some of the most fun stories to write. So, it's a double treat.

I did also get a rejection for my story "The Eye of the Monster" from Macabre Cadaver. This may be the end of the line for this story--this is the sixth or seventh time it's been rejected, half of those from non-paying markets. It's either done with, or needs a serious overhaul.

Also this weekend, our county library had their used book sale. Saturday was $5 bag day. There's not usually much left by then (the last day of the sale), but I managed to pack a bag full of a few treasures. One of my most pleasing finds was a book I picked up seconds after walking through the doors--Shirley Jackson's The Lottery. I've actually wanted to get it from the library a few times, just never did. Now I can read it on my own time. Also looks good on my shelf.

I also found the the Years Best Fantasy and Horror (2004). And a Peter Straub, a Patricia Cornwell, an Elmore Leonard, some poetry, a 2006 Writer's Markets, and one of my favorite books from recent years--The Raw Shark Texts by Steven Hall. I love this book. I recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it yet--go get it now. I think it kind of fell apart at the end, but overall, great book.

And I guess the table of contents for Malpractice: An Anthology of Bedside Terror has been posted. You can see it over at Catherine Gardner's blog. I'm excited about it--February 2009 can't come soon enough.

Congrats on the Thousand Faces sale...and also for the NT sale, that's a big win...I has jealous.

I read the slug for Raw Shark Texts...that sounds like a fun book, I'll have to put it on my list. I love stories that really stretch the boundaries of reality that way, like the Dirk Gently books and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and Charlie Kaufman's screenplays for Eternal Sunshine and Adaptation. I think that's what I like about Neil Gaiman, too...he can create a massive underground world under London and make it seem totally plausible, but always make you wonder what's real and what isn't.

Raw Shark Texts is great for stretching those boudnaries, like Eternal Sunshine in that respect. Loved that movie. You know, I've never read any of the Dirk Gently books, but I I've read all of the Hitchhiker's Guide books a couple times, so I should give the Gently's a try, too.

Thanks, Jamie. I'm partial to them myself. And I may have a few more of his stories in me...

Salt replenishes the softener tablets and helps them to do their job, but many people think it is a lever idea to just add ordinary salt to their machine in order to save a little on expense. Such air filtration systems are very useful for cleansing large quantities of air with almost 95% cleaning. The pint sizes available on the GE brands range from 30 up to 65 pints all of which are energy star. The biggest myths are listed below. No one can deny that the earth is going through a change in climate, whether caused by man or a natural reoccurring cycle.
