Got a rejection this morning from the Dead Bait anthology. My story features a lake monster, and probably isn't quite what they're looking for--it's more a story about the fisherman than the monster. The monster doesn't factor in until the end, and isn't ever fully seen. I still like the story, although I've had no luck with it anywhere. I'll give it a few more tries.
I did get a good start on my Devil's Food story. I've got a good direction, and some unpleasant ideas to include. Can't wait to finish it. I hope I can get it within the word guidelines, but if not, at least I can still submit it elsewhere. I'm trying to adhere to the guidelines a little more closely for this anthology, and the threat of being eaten will be very prominent in it. Unlike my lake monster.

Sadly, I could probably send my Devils food story on to Bait, it uses the same creature and some of the same characters. I can't turn around and do the same for the Bait story though. It is too short. Good luck with Devil's food. that was a good time at the ol' keyboard.
I just sent my Dead Bait reject to Clarkesworld - got to keep those rejections flowing. :)
Jamie--that's not that sad. At least you've got two got options for the story. Good planning ahead on your part. ;)
Catherine--I was just exploring some markets for mine as well. I think I'm looking towards Arkham Tales. I'm a sucker for a quick turnaround time.
Dying, that's not so bad.
Being eaten...that's not cool.
I hope your giant monster finds a nice home.
Lake monster stories are automatically cool. Someone's going to snap that one up!
I'm chewing my fingers now, expecting my Dead Bait rejection any time.
It sure doesn't seem like many folks are having luck with Dead Bait, K.C. Maybe you'll be the one.
