I've gotten a good start in a dark fantasy piece that I'm temporarily calling "Masked." It's a lot of fun to write, which is why I'm working on it and not my Devil's Food story. I wasn't having a good time writing that one, so I put it on hold. I mean, if I'm not enjoying writing it, what are the odds someone will enjoy reading it? I think I just need a little more time to stew on it and get a little perspective.
In the mean time, "Masked" is a blast to write. It's got a crazy homeless guy, a reporter who's too curious for his own good, and mosquito men. Who wouldn't want to write the words "mosquito men"?
In other news, my day job is actually finally coming around to dealing with writing. I do auditing for an insurance company, mostly looking to see that customer service transactions were done correctly. For a while, that has also included compliance letters, so I've gotten to do editing along with auditing. But now I'm going to also be auditing/editing training documentation. I'll finally be using some of the skills that I've learned and practiced as part of my regular job. It's kind of weird. But I'm happy. Now if I can just find a way to parlay this into a full-time writing job, I'll be all set.
My wife's giving the boys a bath, and I just heard her say, "Don't you drink that water!" So I think it's time for me to go help.
What I'm Reading: I finally started reading Night Watch, by Sergei Lukyanenko. I'm only about 40 pages in, but I'm really enjoying the writing style and the storytelling. I don't think I've ever read a vampire book before that I liked, but I'm really enjoying this. It's a very different take on vampires. In a tough decision, I started reading this one instead of House of Leaves. I've got both out from the library right now, and this one seemed more fun to read, which I need right now.

Way to go Rob. The fourth and final Watch book is suppose to be coming out htis month. I have read and own the first three and love them all. The writing is definitely interesting and I can't help but think it has something to do with the fact that it was translated from Russian.
And also, I see that you are beginning to do the job that I was supposed to do at Conseco before they placed me in less...ahem, interesting endeavors.
I figured that since you've been telling me about these books for years now, Will, it was time tht I gave them a try. I'm glad I (inadvertently) waited until the series was finished, so I wouldn't have to wait. I did the same thing with Harry Potter. I agree, I think the language has to do with the translation. I love it.
I completely forgot that that was what you were supposed to be doing at work. Thanks for leaving the position open for me!
