Moonlit Path

It's been a while, and it's been a crazy week. Valentine's Day means a heavy workload at my late night job at a world wide shipping company. I've had to go into the office a lot last week for my other job, and I've just been tired on top of all that. And then a tree fell on our house. It didn't do much damage, thankfully. The tree was only a few feet away from the house, so it just kind of tipped against it when the wind knocked it over, roots and all. The house held it up until I could get someone out to look at it. It really could have destroyed our house though. I'll see if I can find a picture I took of it.

Found some.

So I spent a good portion of my weekend chopping up the tree after the professionals took it down for me. It was a very romantic Valentine's Day.

In other news, my poem "Strange Seed" is up at Tales from the Moonlit Path. Give the site a read, there's some great stuff on there. And I really don't count my poem among those pieces. I like it less and less as I read it. That's my reaction to a lot of my work though.

elm tree? It had a nice figure to it. too bad. Darn wind. Congrats on the poem.

It's a hickory. I thought it was elm, too, but the trees guys said hickory. I gave the wood to my father-in-law, since he helped me cut it and store it. He's going to try to sell it. I heard hickory is a good firewood.

I was actually glad it went down like it did, doing little damage. I've wanted to take it down and not have it hovering over the house like it was.

I think seeing my poem out there reinforces my thoughts that I shouldn't do poetry. Or at least that I don't know how to.

Actually, being a woodworker, hickory is harder than hell but a beautiful wood. We did a kitchen where the cabinets were all hickory. Probably one of the best looking cabinets I have ever seen. I guess I am use to the shagbark hickories we have around here. (surprised you didn't have nuts from it.)

Delightful poem--I loved the last stanza and the imagery of the "pit".

Kudos.

Don't be so critical, man. Your poem was well done. And I'm not just saying that. Well I mean...I am saying it, well actually I'm typing it...Either way, it's good, just accept it.

Very cool poem indeed. Nice to see another horror writer that also enjoys writing poetry!

Thanks, glad you all liked it. I do enjoy mixing up a little horror with some poetry, Barry, but haven't been very successful thus far. We'll see how it progresses.

Congrats on the poem, I'll go check it out. Glad the tree didn't damage your home much. Our house has many oaks around it, and it makes me nervous during big storms!
