Hey. I've been away from the blog for a while, but I haven't been idle. Well, I have been idle, but not completely. But before I ramble on any further, I'd just like to put a plug in for myself--my story "Baited" is up at 52 Stitches this week. Stop by and give it a read. Let me know what you think. Thanks.
So, I've been away. Trying to get back into the spirit of writing. I haven't done a whole lot of writing in that time, but I have been fleshing out an idea for a book, based on a short story of mine. I've always wanted it to be a novel, but the story as it was didn't really have the length for novel--novella maybe. There's not much of a market for novellas, so I squeezed the story into about 8000 words.
I've discovered what the story needed, and then realized where I got the inspiration. I'm going to have Part One, which is my current short story "This Devil's Song," to be followed by Part Two, seventeen years later, where they have to finish off the evil from Part One. Yeah, it's the same structure as Stephen King's It, available where all fine books are sold. The story isn't similar at all, though. I'm really excited, and I've done a lot of research into an aspect of the story I never considered before. It should be a lot of fun. I've started writing the prologue, but that's as far as I am.
As far as being gone, I've just got a lot going on right now. I'm trying to get back into the habit of coming back here regularly, but it's going to be hard. I'm tired all the time, and this isn't what I feel like doing. But if I'm going to be writing, this is important, as a way of keeping myself accountable. So I'll see what I can do.
I'm going to go take a nap now.

Good story, Rob. It reminded me of "From A Buick 8" a bit. I thought it ended a little abruptly but what can you do?
I just had a blast writing a novella. I might try to flesh it out when I re-write it but for now I am happy. Publishing lengths be damned.
That's true, Jamie, that's one way to look at it. The act of writing something can be rewarding in itself.
There are also more new sites popping up that are looking exclusively for novella length works. I say. Two months after you write this post. :P
